The Machine
Prosthesis is a 5m tall, 3500kg, 4-legged, 100% electric high performance wearable walking machine employing state of the art technology. Despite this high level of technology, it has no autonomous control system. The pilot must learn to control the machine via an exo-skeletal interface which maps the movement of his limbs to the limbs of the machine, and physically returns positional feedback.
The Technology
A cutting-edge, 200hp modular, expandable, hybrid-electric power unit drives the electric motors that operate the hydraulic pumps. This system will serve as a platform for showcasing existing and future alternative energy technologies.
The suspension incorporates both passive and active elements, allowing the pilot to optimize performance and stability on the fly, as he tackles varying terrain and explores different gaits and styles of operation.
The Team
Our team of dedicated volunteers, led by engineer and artist Jonathan Tippett includes members from diverse mechanical, electrical and software engineering backgrounds, as well as machinists, welders and media specialists.
